Lithgow is situated approximately 150 kilometres west of Sydney. The hospital was opened as a cottage hospital in 1896, was rebuilt in 1999 at its current location at the western end of the city.
The hospital services the community of geographical area of approximately 3,500 square kilometres that extends from Little Hartley in the east to Meadow Flat in the west, to Capertee and Wolgan Valley in the north and Hampton –Tarana in the south.
The Lithgow area is highly regarded for its scenic and natural values including the Gardens of Stone national Park and parts of the Blue Mountains and Wollemi National Parks.
Our services include:
Lithgow Health Service operates as an integrated health service and provides a combination of services including public and private, aged care, rehabilitation and community health. The inpatient services comprise of medical, surgical, midwifery, emergency, operating theatre and paediatrics.
Start dates:
The proposed commencement dates/months are 6 February and 6 August 2008.

At Lithgow, no accommodation is available and you will need to check local rental accommodation .
Transport description:
- Whilst having your own vehicle is an advantage, the Jones Bros Bus Company provides a timetable passenger service to Lithgow and district. Lithgow is linked to Sydney via the City Rail Inter-urban Service and Countrylink.
- Public timetables and fares are available via the Country Transport Infoline .
Program structure:
- Lithgow Health Service provides a 12-month program to the new graduate nurse with opportunities for nursing placements in a variety of clinical settings. The program includes:
- clinical placements in medical, surgical, theatre and emergency
- support through a preceptorship program that provides the opportunity to work closely with an experienced Registered Nurse during clinical placements.
- the opportunity to acquire ward management skills in all clinical placements as the new graduate nurse is rostered on as the second registered nurse on duty at all times
- documentation to support the program and to assist the new graduate nurse during clinical placements AND
- a handbook with guidelines on topics pertinent to new graduate nurses.
Additional :
- Uniforms (Corporate) - orders must be placed prior to commencement of employment.
- Annual Leave - 2 weeks are rostered after approx. 28 weeks and 4 weeks are rostered from weeks 49-52
- Future Employment - Whilst employment finishes at the end of your 12 month program, many opportunities exist for continuing employment.
