The Eating Disorders Clinic
The Eating Disorders Clinic is a service for adults with the eating disorders of anorexia nervosa and/or bulimia nervosa. Anorexia nervosa is a condition characterised by a below normal body weight, while bulimia nervosa is characterised by the presence of binge eating episodes and certain strategies designed to prevent weight gain (such as self-induced vomiting, misuse of laxatives or severe dieting).
The Clinic involves the assessment and treatment of eating disorders by Clinical Psychologists in either an outpatient or inpatient setting. Treatment is conducted in conjunction with other relevant health professionals such as General Practitioners (to monitor the physical complications of eating disorders) and dietitians (to provide nutritional counselling).
The Clinic also conducts research with the aim of increasing the understanding of eating disorders and improving treatment.
