Services
The Westmead Chronic Pain Service provides psychological assessment and interventions for the treatment of chronic pain sufferers. In addition, the clinic is supported by the Stress and Pain Management Clinic that is run in conjunction with its service. It receives referrals from GPs and specialists within the community.
The Pain Clinic coordinates its services with the Back to Life Program where individual assessments and group treatments are offered. This is an intensive, multidisciplinary spinal restoration program that is unique and is closely integrated with occupational rehabilitation.
One of the important performance outcomes of the psychological programs in pain management is the development of treatment manuals. Presently, treatment manuals have been written for the NRMA Whiplash Study, "Essential Knowledge and Strategies for Pain Management" and "Self-control Techniques and Procedures".
The Pain Clinic is an accredited multidisciplinary clinic and teaching facility for Pain Fellows of the University of Sydney. The multidisciplinary team consists of Specialists in Rehabilitation Medicine, Anaesthetists, a Physiotherapist, Clinical Psychologists, Clinical Nurse Consultant and Registrars. The Clinic assesses and treats patients suffering chronic pain and its associated negative consequences. Following multidisciplinary assessment, patients may be referred to the Stress and Pain Management Clinic (Stress Clinic) which designs and implements activity oriented behavioural programmes or to Back to Life an intensive, multidisciplinary spinal restoration programme.
