Services
The Depression Management Program offers outpatient assessment and treatment for clients suffering from specific depressive disorders. The Program also specialises in managing complex presentations where personality characteristics may influence the course of recovery. The program continues to evolve to meet the range of needs presented for treatment. Currently, Cognitive Behaviour therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) group treatments operate in the clinic, in conjunction with individual psychotherapy where appropriate. Group Interpersonal Psychotherapy (IPT) is the most recent stream of treatment being developed within the Depression Management Program.

Referrals

Referrals are accepted from health professionals in both inpatient and community settings, for clients aged between 18-65 years. Some referrals are accepted from other community agencies, such as, the Commonwealth Rehabilitation Service (CRS). However, in instances where longer term treatment is anticipated for more chronic conditions, establishing a formal referral link through a GP, psychiatrist or Community Mental Health case manager enables optimum care to continue after completion of time-limited psychological treatment.

Training

Supervision is provided for Masters in Clinical Psychology and Doctorate in Clinical Psychology students from Macquarie University, Sydney University, Wollongong University, University of NSW and the University of Western Sydney. In addition, ongoing education opportunities are offered for staff employed within the SWAHS via co-leadership of treatment groups, attendance of training workshops, consultation and supervision.

Research

Collaboration with a number of research teams is currently being discussed with a view to developing collaborative outcome studies.
