Bone Marrow Transplant Service
Who Are We?
The Westmead BMT Service is a large multi-disciplinary team dedicated to providing the highest standards of medical care for patients undergoing bone marrow transplants. The team consists of doctors, nurses, pharmacists, dieticians, dentists, social workers, laboratory scientists, and other health care professionals. All of these people have training and experience in caring for people undergoing BMT, and all have commitment to providing the best possible outcomes for all patients. The BMT Service draws on over 25 years of experience in treating BMT patients, with over 500 allogeneic and 300 autologous transplants being done since 1981.

The BMT Service is located at Westmead Hospital in Ward C5A, which has recently been re-built to provide a state-of-art facility specifically designed for the care of BMT patients. The re-building of the ward was done as part of the re-development of Westmead Hospital under the WIN program, at a cost of $5.4 million. There is a special air-conditioning system, which provides clean air to all parts of the ward, after filtration through high-efficiency particulate air (HEPA) filters at all points of entry. The ward now has a total of 25 beds, consists of 21 single rooms, each with ensuite bathroom facilities, and 2 rooms with 2 beds.
