Health Protection
Health Protection refers to those activities which are primarily concerned with the exercise of legislation designed to “protect” the health of the public. The principal legislative instruments in NSW are the Public Health Act 1991 and various Regulations covering areas such as infectious diseases, drinking water, microbial control, swimming pools, disposal of bodies and tobacco control. Other important legislation includes the SmokeFree Environment Act 2000 and its amendments.
There are three key areas of work within Health Protection –
Program staff operate from offices in the Parramatta (Cumberland Hospital)
and Penrith (Nepean Hospital) areas.
