GCSN - Cancer

Graduates

 

Nine (9) nurses who completed the four (4) modules in 12 months as full time students graduated in February 2007.

These are the first cancer nurses to graduate from the GCSN-Cancer program. They are also the first nurses in NSW to study using 'flexible learning' with the Pilot in On-Line Clinical Education for Nursing (POLCEN).

Mona Ham Scholarship 2006 Awarded to Elaine Carey (Port Macquarie Hospital)

In 2006, Elaine Carey received a Mona Ham scholarship for rural nurses undertaking radiotherapy nursing studies. Elaine previously worked part-time in the day-only cancer clinic administering chemotherapy, and since graduating has successfully gained a position in the new radiotherapy department in Port Macquarie Hospital.  Click here to read her account.  Click here to view the photo.

Post Nominal

Students who have completed their studies for the SWAHS Graduate Certificate in Specialty Nursing are encouraged to use the post nominal of 'GCSN' as one of their qualifications.

For example:

Jane Smith RN. GCSN(SWAHS)

Anna Wong RN BANsg(UWS) GCSN(SWAHS)

Eugena Markoff EN, RN(UTS),GradCertPalCare(CN), GCSN(SWAHS)

Students are also encouraged to develop their professional portfolio to include a list of all the cancer-related assignments they produced for this course in order to showcase their studies in radiotherapy (XRT) or ambulatory infusion services (AIS), and/or particular types of cancers/haematological malignancies.
